Background

David Martinez

MA in Writing, Rhetoric, and Social Change, Colorado State University

David was born and raised in Grand Junction, Colorado, where he earned his bachelor’s degree from Colorado Mesa University. He pursued English because it allowed him to explore a wide range of subjects—from science and psychology to philosophy and mathematics—while still having a disciplinary home to return to. After moving to Fort Collins for his master’s degree in rhetoric, David has continued to find joy in learning from every field within reach.

Professional Experience

David’s professional background spans a range of writing and academic experiences, including positions as a writing tutor, newspaper editor, technical writer, and in advertising. In higher education, he has taught English composition and contributed to multiple interdisciplinary research projects, including
feminist archival work for a public art exhibit and linguistic analysis of microbiome literature for a computer science and biology collaboration. David also serves as an academic advisor at PPSC, where he works with students both in and outside the classroom to support their academic success.

Research Interests

David’s research explores the intersections of rhetoric, science and technology studies, and environmental communication. His work spans topics from microbiology and environmental discourse to feminist archival research and posthuman theory. He is especially interested in how rhetoric and communication shape the construction and circulation of scientific knowledge across disciplines. This all culminates in an interest in investigating the relationship between language and our processes of constructing realities.
